We recently had several friends over to stay the weekend and I was reminded how wonderful it is to entertain people in your home. The pandemic has caused us to isolate and withdraw from our friends and family, but as we look hopefully to the future when we will emerge from this era, it is a good time to think about rejuvenating our guest spaces for family and friend visits. Whether you have a dedicated guest room or just an extra bed, pillows are a fun way to refresh a bed and give the space a welcoming feel.
Below I’ve sketched 6 ways to design a queen bed with euros, shams, bolsters and decorative throw pillows. They’re each different and can change depending upon trims, flanges etc, but allow for simple to cozy decor.
I usually use two euros in the back of my bedding, they’re 26” squares and serve as a back drop to the pillows in front. They’re nice with a self flange or brush fringe to set them off. The feather fills give a plush look and can be karate chopped (dented) if you like that look. The poly fills give a nice firm look and are a bit more budget friendly.
I use Queen size shams in front of the euros on a Queen bed as they measure 20” x 30” and I like the look of the coverage side to side as well as the custom look. Standard shams measure 26” wide and can look more diminutive. Options for the front decorative pillows can be a long lumbar, a bolster or a few small deco squares.
These front pillows can be a fun way to introduce a different texture or combine fabrics together to tie in the look.
From the simple look of pillow cases stacked horizontally on the bed with the shams in front, to the layers of pillows 3 or 4 deep, choose the style you like and call The Wendel Works to refresh your bedrooms!
