Decorative Tapes and Banding

In the past few years regarding window treatments, we’ve seen a move away from trims and fringe and more towards tapes and banding. With the soft monotone colors and designs, the tape trims have made a big entrance with lots of wonderful patterns and textures. Where tassel trims were used down the sides of drapery panels, pillows or on the bottom of roman shades, we now see tape trims adding layers of color and pattern and even texture. I love the tapes on solid or textures fabrics as they can add a strong pattern and emphasize the treatment without overwhelming the room.

Tapes on roman shades, for example, can accentuate the folds along the edges defining the treatment. A skilled workroom can mitre the tapes adding a couture finish to corners.

As well as purchased tapes, banding can be added using contrast fabrics which can really accent the lines along the edge of a valance.

Fabrics such as checks and stripes cut on the bias can look wonderful as banding, especially with an added layer of trim.

If a current project needs a finished edge, consider adding a decorative tape or even a contrast banding and give your treatment the couture finish it deserves!
